Defense against martens & co. can save a lot of money.
When winter draws to a close, as it is now, most lamppost parkers breathe a sigh of relief. They think: “At last it’s safe to park your car on the street again”. However, this feeling is only partly justified – some experts even say “not at all”. There are many good reasons for keeping your car in the garage during the warmer months. Firstly, the significantly better protection against theft. Secondly, the comprehensive sun, weather and storm protection. And last but not least, the comprehensive protection against wild animals.
“Wildlife conservation? …” one or two people may now have doubts. “Yes, wildlife conservation!” This is indeed extremely important. Which leads to the next question:

Probably the most important wild animal that a garage protects your car from is the German stone marten. This small, sharp-toothed wild animal causes enormous damage to cars parked outdoors in Germany: insurance companies in Germany have to deal with around 230,000 reports of marten damage to cars every year (the fourth most common reason for partial claims) – and around 90 million euros have to be paid out to damaged car owners every year!
If you now also consider that many car owners take out comprehensive or partial cover insurance with an excess of 250 or 500 euros and the damage is generally only reported to the insurance company if the amount payable is significantly higher (and the 250 or 500 euros are paid by the owner), the actual total amount of damage can probably be at least doubled. After all, there are also all the injured parties whose insurance does not cover marten damage or consequential damage (e.g. engine damage due to a damaged cooling system) (which is not that rare, depending on the policy structure)!
In fact, insects and birds rarely bite car cooling hoses – but their more or less unappetizing droppings can cause massive and permanent damage to the highly sensitive car paintwork … And here again: bird droppings, aphid nectar and other insect excretions can cause massive damage to your beloved car – but the costs that may arise are generally not covered by car insurance! Good for those who can park their car in a solid garage!
Our smart solution
With our garage configurator, you can design your garage according to your wishes in just a few clicks – from the size to the fittings.
As (probably already) suspected, an open carport only provides very limited protection against damage from wild animals. After all, the side walls of a carport are generally open due to their design – so that martens & co. can penetrate the car from the side and damage it in this way. Carports such as those offered by ZAPF are therefore a visually appealing additional storage area – but offer only limited protection. However, certain ZAPF carports offer the decisive advantage that they can – if desired – be closed at the side at a later date (and then also offer appropriate all-round protection). This is generally not possible with the vast majority of other carports!
To summarize, the following can be said: A carport that is open at the side only offers protection from wild animal “attacks” from above. In contrast, a classic garage, such as the one from ZAPF, offers all-round protection. So it’s best to choose a suitable garage model now! .
