Our mobility is changing dramatically – and with it, the way we get around. Pedelecs in particular are currently gaining enormously in importance. In the vast majority of cases, however, a garage makes sense despite this change – preferably a double or large-capacity garage. Will pedelecs populate Germany’s garages in the future?<\/h2>\n

There’s no doubt about it: electric bikes or pedelecs (also known colloquially as e-bikes) and cargo bikes or cargo e-bikes (also known as cargobikes) powered by electric motors are currently revolutionizing local transport in Germany – especially in cities, in the surrounding conurbations and for short journeys in the countryside.<\/p>\n

In fact, pedelecs and cargo bikes are becoming increasingly important and are now replacing the usual second or third car for a not inconsiderable number of people. 2.2 million of these contemporary means of transportation were purchased in Germany in 2022, and the trend towards pedelecs continues unabated. These means of transportation offer many advantages, especially in urban areas: they are fast, flexible, and eliminate the time-consuming and annoying search for a parking space. More and more people are therefore opting for this sustainable way of getting around and doing without a second or third car. <\/p>\n

And if you also equip the powerful pedelecs with a trailer or buy one of the cargo bikes that specialize in transport, you no longer necessarily need a car as a means of transport, even for weekend shopping. You might therefore be tempted to question the purchase of a new garage in principle – or at least consider not buying a double garage or a large garage. But that could be a mistake!<\/p>\n

In fact, double garages or large-capacity garages also make sense when second or third cars are replaced by pedelecs or e-cargobikes!<\/h3>\n

Not only because the first car is getting bigger and bigger (in the last 20 years alone, cars in Germany have grown an average of 20 cm in length and 10 cm in width) and therefore need an ever larger garage. No, also and especially because of pedelecs! Because these new, trendy means of transportation absolutely “deserve” a secure (lockable), protected from wind and weather, and, above all, sufficiently spacious parking space! Doing without a garage altogether and parking pedelecs outside – or trying to accommodate them in a small single garage (in which there is already a car) could “backfire”. <\/p>\n

E-bikes are too expensive to be parked on the street – they should be in a garage!<\/h3>\n

Pedelecs and cargo bikes are indeed not cheap purchases – an average of \u20ac2,800 (!) was spent on a pedelec in Germany in 2022. They therefore represent a valuable investment and should be protected accordingly. While a simple shed may at least offer some protection, double or large garages are a much better solution for keeping these valuable means of transportation safe and protected from the weather. <\/p>\n

E-bikes need a surprising amount of space – which only a spacious garage can provide!<\/h3>\n

Another decisive factor is the space required by pedelecs, which should not be underestimated, especially with a bicycle trailer or as a cargo bike variant. Depending on the model and equipment, all of these means of transportation can be huge – and the required maneuvering space even larger. Especially for families or households with several bikes and pedelecs, the space required can be so large that it becomes a real problem. In this case, double or large garages offer the space required to park the means of transportation safely and in an orderly fashion. <\/p>\n

It should also be borne in mind that it is advisable to use a solid bike stand for the bikes and pedelecs, especially if there are several pedelecs\/bikes – and that this also requires a considerable amount of floor space, which is easiest to provide in a generously proportioned garage.<\/p>\n

Secure and convenient charging of pedelecs – easiest in a large garage<\/h3>\n

If the garage has a basic electrical installation (as is of course possible with ZAPF), pedelecs and the like can be charged effortlessly in the garage, protected from the weather and theft – including several pedelecs and\/or cargo bikes. The following also applies to this topic: charging is, of course, particularly convenient in a generously proportioned large garage or in a double garage! <\/p>\n
