The car battery is under particular strain when it is wet and cold outside. It can happen that when the ignition key is turned, nothing else happens apart from a “click”.
As a rule, the car battery is repeatedly charged by the alternator while driving. The big problem in winter is that, especially on short journeys, the “energy drain” is greater than the new energy generated by the alternator. The many electric assistants in particular, such as seat heating and the like, require a lot of energy and lead to a negative charge balance. The result is clear: at some point the battery will fail.

Mit vollautomatischen Ladegeräten kann die Autobatterie auch in der heimischen Garage wieder aufgeladen werden. Diese Geräte sind im Baumarkt oder Tankstellen für geringes Geld zu haben. Lasst Euch hier gut beraten, um für Euer Fahrzeug das richtige Ladegerät zu finden. Die meisten Geräte sind inzwischen gegen Funkenbildung und Kurzschluss abgesichert und funktionieren auch bei Minus-Temperaturen.
Das Ladegerät wird dann einfach mit der Steckdose der Garage und den Polen der Batterie verbunden und schon beginnt der Ladevorgang. Bitte beachtet her die Bedienungsanleitung, um die richtige Handhabung der Anschlüsse nicht zu vertauschen.
Nach einigen Stunden ist Eure Batterie wieder gut geladen und das Auto sollte wieder anspringen.
Schwieriger wird es, wenn die Batterie komplett entladen ist. Das passiert gerade dann, wenn Autos über Monate in der Garage geparkt werden, wie das z.B. bei Saisonautos oder Cabrios oft ist. Hier ist es empfehlenswert, die Batterie „abzuklemmen“ (wer sich hier nicht auskennt, sollte das durch einen Fachmann machen lassen!), um eine Entladen zu vermeiden.
