Ventilate garages regularly? Yes – and right now!

It is common knowledge that houses and apartments need to be ventilated regularly. But garages? Do they also need to be aired regularly? The answer to this question is clear: yes, absolutely. And especially now – in the cold and often particularly rainy half of the year! And for good reason. After all, right now…

(Too much) moisture should definitely be kept out of the garage!

This is because moisture brought into the garage increases the risk of mildew and mold growth! These are not only unattractive because this mold can then spread to garden or leisure equipment stored in the garage. Mold is also a health hazard because mold spores are toxic and can be directly absorbed by us humans via the respiratory tract.

First, it is therefore best not to bring too much moisture into the garage in the first place!

Especially in the cold season, this often happens unintentionally – due to hoarfrost, ice or snow on the car. It is therefore always best to at least roughly remove these cold “weather residues” before entering the garage. And if this is not possible, dripping ice or snow should always be swept or pushed out of the garage as soon as possible.

Remove any moisture that has entered the garage as quickly as possible by airing it regularly!

It is therefore best to leave the garage door open every 2 3 days until the damp garage has visibly dried out, especially now in the cold and damp half of the year. This is a good way to prevent mold growth. However, please keep in mind one thing: summer tires, leisure equipment, and garden equipment stored in the garage are, of course, freely accessible during ventilation. And could therefore “get legs” during the ventilation period. So it’s best not to leave the garage unattended for too long during ventilation!

Which of course begs the question …
Are there any technical solutions for ventilating a garage without thieves having access to the garage during ventilation? YES, there are!
There are indeed such options, and when buying a new garage, it is therefore worth considering whether the garage should be equipped with them right from the start .

Technical ventilation solution number 2: Garage door with partial tilt function

At ZAPF, this type of garage door is called a “premium sectional door” and this electrically operated door can not only be conveniently opened and closed completely by remote control, but can also be tilted very easily at the top for ventilation. The resulting gap allows the humid indoor air to be conveniently exchanged with the outside air without uninvited guests entering the garage.

Incidentally, the premium sectional door not only increases ease of use (thanks to the electric door operator and remote control, among other things) and improves ventilation (thanks to the tilt function) … it also looks really good!
