Transportation on water saves energy

ZAPF GmbH again ships prefabricated garages to the Netherlands

A total of four ships transport prefabricated concrete garages from ZAPF GmbH to the Netherlands within a few months. A logistical challenge that required a great deal of planning. Although the effort involved is considerable, transportation by water pays off. Around 50 garages can be loaded onto each ship in one go. This saves over 250,000 km that would otherwise have been required by heavy goods vehicles for the same route, as the well-known garage manufacturer from Bayreuth usually delivers its prefabricated garages using special trucks and cranes.

Last Friday, August 20, the fourth ship with around 50 garages set sail from Bamberg, after 50 garages had also set sail from Kehlheim for the Netherlands the week before. Two more ships with 120 ZAPF garages on board left at the end of 2020.

The destination is the inland port of Oss in the Netherlands. The ships sail non-stop and take around a week to travel via the Danube, Main and Rhine. On arrival, the garages are loaded onto trucks and taken to their final location. However, there is no need for a lengthy journey by road, as all the garages are destined for a modern garage park – which is being built just a few kilometers from the port.
