Anyone currently buying a garage should know what will be in it in the future!
You don’t buy a solid garage every day. In this respect, it makes perfect sense to know as precisely as possible which vehicle will be parked in it tomorrow and the day after tomorrow when deciding to buy a garage. However, this is not so easy to estimate at the moment.
It has probably never been more difficult to predict which vehicles we will be using in the future so that we can focus on them when buying a garage!
On the one hand, this concerns the drive system (gasoline, diesel, electricity, natural gas, hydrogen …), but above all the number, size and shape of our future vehicles! And it is precisely these specifications that should determine the dimensions, shape and equipment of the optimal garage of the future.
One thing is clear: it is currently difficult to make a long-term prediction about the future of cars, but current trends (and their consequences for garage selection) are helpful!

While just under 20 million Germans lived in households with two or more cars in 2018, this figure had risen to 22 million three years later. The conclusion: it is better to order a double garage or a large-capacity garage right away instead of having to park the second vehicle on the street.
At the beginning of the 1960s, German cars were still shorter than 4 meters on average; now they are around 4.60 meters on average! The conclusion from this: If in doubt, it is better to choose a slightly longer garage – especially if, for example, bicycles or garden tools are also to be stored in the garage, as the width of the vehicles has generally increased with their length. It may therefore be better to choose a wide garage – so that it is as easy as possible to get in and out.
Our smart solution
With our garage configurator, you can design your garage according to your wishes in just a few clicks – from the size to the fittings.
SUVs alone now have a 29.6% share of new registrations – and this share is increasing almost every month (by +11.5% from January 2023 to February 2023!). The conclusion from this: as this type of car is higher than average and fills the interior of a garage much more than a flatter saloon, it is advisable to equip the new garage with a sectional door because the sectional door (unlike the up-and-over door often chosen in the past) does not swing into the room when opening and closing, thus making more interior space (and space in front of the garage) usable.
The number of electronic “little helpers” in cars is increasing massively. The conclusion is that we expect this kind of help in many other areas too – including the garage! So it’s best to equip your new garage with an electric garage door opener right from the start, possibly with ZAPF Connect (for control via smart phone), a premium sectional door (for remote-controlled air conditioning via ventilation element) and ZAPF Doorlight for convenient (and aesthetic) garage forecourt lighting!
