With the humid spring temperatures, mold likes to spread on walls, ceilings, and floors. However, mold does not have to remain untreated in the garage either.

Schimmelbefall durch unterschiedliche Ursachen
Schimmel, gesundheitsgefährdende Pilze, bilden sich in Räumen mit einem zu hohen Feuchtigkeitsanteil, welche zudem schlecht belüftet und beheizt werden. Die Pilze können zahlreiche Erkrankungen wie Allergien, Atemwegsbeschwerden, Kopfschmerzen oder Vergiftungen verursachen. Schimmel breitet sich sowohl an den Wänden, Decken und Böden aus und sollte immer schnellstmöglich beseitigt werden. Während Wohnräume eher selten von Schimmelbefall betroffen werden, zählt die Garage zu jenen Gebäuden, welche besonders häufig Schimmel aufweisen. Dies hängt zum Großteil mit den nicht vorhandenen Lüftungs- und Heizmöglichkeiten sowie den Witterungseinflüssen mitsamt kalter, nasser Luft zusammen. Im Winter sollte darauf geachtet werden, dass beim Abstellen des Autos in die Garage der Schnee am Auto zuvor entfernt wird. Nach Regenfahrten mit dem Auto sollte das Garagentor zum Lüften offen bleiben. Auch schlechtes Dämmmaterial tragen zur vermehrten Schimmelbildung bei. Zudem wird Schimmel in der Garage seltener bemerkt als in Wohnräumen, sodass die Beseitigung später stattfindet und meist schon großer Schaden entstanden ist.
Mold removal in the garage
To combat mold in the garage, the cause must first be identified. Holes in the walls, floor, and ceiling must be eliminated, and the moisture removed. Once the walls and ceilings have been repaired, they should be well insulated, and, if necessary, a dehumidifier installed in the garage. A hot air blower also kills mold and dries the damp areas. If the garage has smooth walls, these can be cleaned with 80 percent alcohol to remove the mold. In the case of light mold infestation, an anti-mold paint is often sufficient. To prevent new mold infestation, accumulated moisture must be removed by regular airing. In garages with a window, this can even be done easily.
