In the past, the purpose of garage doors was to close the garage. Nothing more. Today, modern models are available in visually appealing versions and with comfort-enhancing electrical equipment.
How times have changed: 20 – 30 years ago, most garages were almost exclusively fitted with very, very simple up-and-over doors or, in the case of brick-built garages, even more often with hinged doors. Swing gates are definitely no longer in use today. And the technology of up-and-over doors has changed, at least in essential details.
In fact, some older up-and-over garage doors can still be renovated and restored to a good condition, provided the fabric is in good condition. By the way, up-and-over garage doors are still being installed on new garages, as they are extremely robust and offer particularly good value for money.
