Are you (and your garage) ready for fall?

One thing is clear: summer is now over. The hours of sunshine are getting fewer. The garden and outdoor facilities want to be put to rest, and most motorcycles and convertibles need to be taken to their winter quarters. Everything in and around your garage should now be prepared for the cold season. Because now is the perfect time!

You should pay particular attention to the following points NOW when preparing your garage for the fall:

Now is the ideal time to check the few maintenance points that a garage has (e.g., the door lock, the door transmitter battery, the door tracks, and the door springs…) in a relaxed manner and in (still) pleasant temperatures. After all, nobody wants to oil the garage door lock during a winter storm because that’s when it suddenly becomes a little heavier!

Now, in late summer and early fall, many wild animals are looking for places to hide for the winter, and we don’t like to have all of them in our homes, so be sure to check all ventilation grilles and covers in the garage so that unloved small animal guests don’t slip through (perhaps) defective grilles and then move into your garage.
Now, in the fall, there are (logically) many leaves falling from trees and bushes, which also like to blow into the garage – and then possibly collect in the corners of the garage together with the dust that has accumulated over the summer. Both need to be swept out in good time; otherwise, they can develop into moisture pockets on which, in the worst case, mold can grow.

Jetzt dauert es außerdem gar nicht mehr so lange bis zum ersten Frost und allerersten Schneeflocken – am besten also jetzt und damit rechtzeitig und in Griffweite in der Garage Streusand, Besen und Schneeräumer für den Vorplatz und den Fußweg von und zu der Garage bereitstellen.
Jetzt sollten Sie auch damit beginnen, empfindliche Sommertopfpflanzen einzulagern. Bestimmte Sorten können (sofern dort genug Platz ist) übrigens auch in der Garage untergebracht werden. Einige Oleandersorten vertragen z. B. die Dunkelheit in einer Garage relativ gut. Und je dunkler es dort ist, desto kühler darf es offenbar sogar für Oleander sein (aber besser dauerhaft nicht kälter als -5 ° C, sonst könnten die Pflanzen erfrieren).
Jetzt empfiehlt es sich zudem, dass Sie prüfen, ob die Lichtsituation Ihrer Garage noch optimal ist. Was im Sommer kaum stört … im Herbst und Winter will man, dass es vor und in der Garage schön hell ist, wenn man nach Hause kommt oder auf die Arbeit fährt. Unsere Empfehlung: Beleuchtung kontrollieren und ggf. defekte Leuchtmittel erneuern (lassen).
Jetzt neigt sich auch die Gartensaison dem Ende zu – also Gartengeräte geschützt und am besten mit System in der Garage unterstellen und dort „überwintern“ lassen. Rasenmäher vor dem Abstellen gründlich säubern und evtl. noch einmal sorgfältig durchchecken, damit er im Frühjahr wieder gut anspringt.
Jetzt wird es für viele Auto- und Motorradliebhaber Zeit, nur im Sommer gefahrenen Schätze in der „Herbst-/Wintergarage“ unterzubringen. Deshalb checken, ob die Lüftungsöffnungen der Garage alle unverstellt sind (um einen kontinuierlichen Luftaustausch sicherzustellen) und ob die gegebenenfalls installierten zusätzlichen Lüftungseinrichtungen (wie den Ökogaragenlüfter von ZAPF) richtig funktionieren.
