App functions are diverse
With additional app functions, the smartphone can be used for almost any application. The only prerequisite for opening or closing a garage door via app is that the door already has an electric operator. If the operator motor is controlled via the cell phone app in combination with the opening mechanism, the smartphone acts as a hand-held transmitter. The existing door operator receives the receiver module as an additional component. When the user activates the door operator with the smartphone, these signals are sent to the receiver device via the app using Bluetooth. From there, the impulses reach the door operator’s drive motor via cable and initiate the opening or closing process of the garage door.
Manufacturers ensure that the signal coding is secure enough so that unauthorized use is practically impossible. To enable several family members to access the garage, there are also systems that can distribute the use of the app across several smartphones.
When installing a garage door opening function via app, it should be noted that there are systems that only work over a short range, such as Bluetooth. Other systems can be used from anywhere in the world. However, these systems require an internet connection in order to function. The latter systems have the advantage that you can use the app to check whether the garage door is open or closed.
