Especially in difficult weather conditions in winter (slippery, snow etc.), the risk of falling – even for younger, healthy people – is particularly high when getting in and out of the car. In addition, the fear of being robbed in the darkness of the garage forecourt is not unfounded.

The fact is: an electric garage door opener makes life easier and generates many other benefits. Here is an overview of the most important ones:
- Health – orthopaedic bending movements in front of the garage are no longer necessary with a garage door opener
- Time saving – you can open the garage in the house or close it when you are already in the car
- Security – the electric garage door opener increases burglary protection and reduces the risk of robbery
- Getting in and out of the garage – the garage retains a certain room temperature even in winter – so you don’t have to worry about unexpected black ice in the garage – you can always get into the car safely and are also protected from rain, snow and other unpleasant weather conditions
Tip: When installing an automatic door opener, we at ZAPF also recommend having the entire garage checked for defects by our renovation professionals. Rust can form at critical points in particular – such as the door springs – making it difficult to open the door and also posing a safety risk that should not be underestimated. If corrosion or even more serious door damage occurs in your garage, the door can easily be replaced.
An important tip in this context is to avoid tripping hazards in the garage. After all, falls are the most common cause of household accidents in Germany! People who already suffer from back problems in particular should avoid dangerous falls at all costs.
This avoids the risk of falling in the garage:
- Remove snow and ice residue brought in by the car – this prevents slippery or damp spots
- Check the garage for oil stains – if the car is leaking oil, the oil can become a slipping hazard
- Clear tripping hazards out of the way – do not leave any objects lying around the area used for getting in and out of the car → Tip: Simply tidy up the garage with the interior systems from ZAPF!
- Grit regularly in front of the garage in cold weather – dangers also lurk in front of the garage in icy and slippery conditions
- Have lights installed in and in front of the garage (e.g. as part of the garage renovation) to minimize the risk of overlooking a dangerous spot in the dark
- Install a door – to get to the house more safely and quickly
