Don’t wait too long! Anyone who has been thinking about buying a new garage for a while should buy now to benefit from the VAT reduction until the end of the year.
As part of the coronavirus economic stimulus package, a temporary reduction in VAT came into force on July 1, 2020. The tax rate will fall from 19% to 16% for the vast majority of goods and services available in Germany. If this tax reduction is passed on in full to the market by the respective supplier, consumers will save three percent on purchases. However, this reduced tax rate will only apply until the end of the year, i.e. December 31, 2020.
What do I have to consider when buying as a consumer? If you want to benefit from the VAT reduction, you must buy in good time, as the decisive date for calculating the respective VAT rate is the final delivery or handover of the goods. For your garage purchase, this means that it is not the date of the order that counts, but the date on which the service is provided – in this case the date of installation and handover for use. It is therefore important not to take action too late in order to actually be able to take advantage of the three percent tax saving.
