Have a light barrier retrofitted to prevent dangerous situations in the door area!
Light barriers can make a decisive contribution to the safety of a garage with an electric door operator – especially where, for example, small children or animals are often in front of the garage. With a built-in light barrier, the garage door registers as soon as there is an obstacle in the door’s range of movement and immediately stops the opening or closing process. The automatically operated door comes to a standstill and thus prevents injuries. Damage to the vehicle is also prevented by the light barrier protection.
How does a light barrier work with an automatic garage door?
Light barriers are nowadays installed in garage doors with electric door operators for safety reasons, because this type of door can be opened and closed by hand transmitter or app even outside of your own field of vision. To avoid danger in such situations, the light barrier system helps to prevent unnecessary contacts. This works via a light beam that immediately stops the garage door as soon as it is interrupted by an obstacle.

Retrofitting a light barrier in a garage?
The light barrier can generally be retrofitted to most garage doors with an electric door operator. However, some things should still be considered for older garages:
If the garage door is already several years old and severe defects are already visible on the door, it may make sense to replace the door completely. The new door can then be installed directly with an electric door operator and including a light barrier.
If the garage door is still in top condition and the electric door operator is still working perfectly, the ZAPF modernization professionals can easily retrofit the light barrier to the existing door.
Signs of defects in the garage door:
Not sure whether you should also have the entire garage door replaced as part of the light barrier retrofit?
The following signs indicate serious damage to the garage door:
- Massive rust infestation on running rails, door frames or door brackets
- Overstretched or broken turf springs
- Warped and/or severely damaged door leaf
- Damaged gate lock
