You’ve probably heard of the term “smart home” for residential buildings? A few weeks ago, ZAPF released an improved version of the “ZAPF Connect” app, which can now also be used to digitally control your own garage using this principle!
Which garage functions can be controlled via ZAPF Connect?
With the ZAPF Connect app, the garage door (provided it has the appropriate equipment) can be opened and closed conveniently via smartphone. But that’s not all: in the new version, users can now also check whether the garage door is actually closed (or not) while on the move after logging into their ZAPF Connect Cloud account and activating this function. It can also be opened or closed while on the move (to avoid unnecessary potential hazards, the garage must be equipped with a light barrier, which is also available from ZAPF). This means that nobody has to worry about whether the garage door is really locked when they are on vacation, for example!
Another new feature of the app is called “Coming home”. With this function, the door opens (if configured accordingly) when the owner of the app approaches the garage door – all by itself!
Interesting for anyone who owns a ZAPF premium sectional door: The special (burglar-proof) ventilation position of the premium sectional door is also intelligently controlled via the ZAPF Connect app. To do this, the Premium door’s humidity sensor connects to the app. If the humidity in the garage is too high, the sensor reports this and the app sets the door to the ventilation position. The top section of the Premium sectional door opens and the moist air escapes, while the door remains closed so that no thieves can get in.

What requirements must be met to set up the ZAPF Connect system?
To control your garage smartly, you need a ZAPF Connect Box and a ZAPF Connect Stick for each garage door. The stick has a Bluetooth module and is plugged into the back of the pre-equipped garage door opener. The door is then controlled by the ZAPF Connect Box.
All you need to start the control system on your cell phone is the Internet and a smartphone on which the ZAPF Connect app has been installed.
- Smartphone: The ZAPF smart garage system works with all current iPhone and Android smartphones as well as iPads and many tablets. Apple devices require iOS 10 or higher, devices with Android at least 5.1. The devices should also support Bluetooth 4.2.
- WLAN: To be able to control the garage with ZAPF Connect, a WLAN signal strength of > 50 percent is required.
