In summer, the green roof cools the interior of the garage, as the plants act as a temperature regulator. A garage roof without greenery, on the other hand, can heat up considerably more in summer. On roofs with a green roof, the special soil mixture and the plants protect the garage from direct sunlight. This also keeps the vehicle parked inside pleasantly cool. In addition, the evaporation of the greenery creates a better microclimate around the garage. Anyone with a house close to the garage will notice a difference in summer.
But a green space like this is not only important for us humans. Small animals such as birds, bees and other insects in particular benefit from the biotope on the roof. The plants on the garage roof provide them with a much-needed food supply. A “green” roof is also a real visual benefit. Particularly in spring, the additional green space creates a beautiful picture.
Important to know: Not every old garage can be retrofitted with a green roof. The decisive factor is the permissible roof load. It may also be necessary to replace the old roof waterproofing before applying the green roof. The best thing to do is to seek advice from the ZAPF specialists!
