Classic cars special and collector’s vehicles have special requirements. These should definitely be considered when renovating an old garage.
Do you own one of the approximately 500,000 historic vehicles with a German H license plate or another valuable collector’s or special vehicle? Congratulations! Beautiful cars and motorcycles are pleasing to the eye (and the heart). However, many of them are also quite fragile, and most of them need regular care and attention. The aging, damp, and old dark garage is definitely not (or no longer) the right place to store such a treasure – and it’s no fun looking after and working on the ‘garage gold’ in there either.
Collector’s vehicles have a big enemy: rust. To prevent this, it is important that the garage is dry – or becomes dry again. It is therefore crucial that the roof is permanently sealed when renovating the old garage and that no more water penetrates. Leaking garage roofs can either be renovated in the traditional way or, if the whole thing is to last a particularly long time and also be visually enhanced, protected against the ingress of rainwater with a modern mono-pitch roof extension. If the walls and ceiling inside are then freed from mold and mildew stains and the interior is completely renovated, a lot has already been achieved! Ideally, however, it should also be ensured that any moisture brought into the garage does not remain there …

It is therefore essential to consider whether the renovation of the old garage should be used to install either a so-called eco-garage ventilator (which uses wind power to extract moist air from the interior) and/or a premium sectional door. The premium sectional door has the option of moving the top section of the door into a special ventilation position that enables intensive air exchange without having to open the entire door. The collector’s vehicle is therefore safely stored even when it is being ventilated!
Our smart solution
With our garage configurator, you can design your garage according to your wishes in just a few clicks – from the size to the fittings.
If your old garage has no or only inadequate electrical equipment, the upcoming garage renovation is the ideal time to change this too: First and foremost, have a proper lighting system and a sufficient number of sockets installed! Perhaps it also makes sense for you to install a window and/or a door? This is also possible – albeit with a little more effort – as part of an individual garage renovation!
The bottom line is that renovating and refurbishing your old garage is not only an investment in the security and value of your property, but also an opportunity to “live” your passion for classic cars and special vehicles by sprucing up the private parking garage of your piece of automotive gold. Use the cold season to plan your garage renovation with our ZAPF modernization specialists and create the perfect space for your treasure on two or four wheels with our help.
