Over time, every roof, including a garage roof, leaks. When it comes to sealing the garage roof, you have a wide range of options to choose from. For example, if you only have one leak, you don’t necessarily have to reseal the entire roof. In such a case, you can also use a sealing tape or a sealing compound. This can be applied with a spray gun or a spatula. Once the compound has hardened, it is waterproof. Of course, the drying times must be observed.

Differences in the waterproofing of garage roofs
If you want to completely reseal the garage roof, there are various options. For example, you can use a membrane roof or bitumen sheeting. This is also the most common option when it comes to waterproofing the garage roof. In this case, the old waterproofing must be completely removed. This is relatively easy to do with a scraper or shovel. Depending on whether you have a concrete or wooden substrate, there are different work steps. If you have a wooden substrate, you cannot apply the new waterproofing membrane directly. Instead, you need a carpet pad, a waterproofing membrane, onto which it is nailed with roofing felt pins. Make sure that there is always an overlap of 10 cm. Only then can the correct waterproofing membrane be applied with a torch. A primer to increase adhesion is not necessary.
Waterproofing directly on concrete ceiling
The situation is different if you have a concrete ceiling. This must be applied to increase adhesion between the waterproofing membrane and the concrete ceiling. It is very important that the primer must be completely dry before the waterproofing membrane can be applied with the torch. If this is not the case, it may catch fire. When applying the waterproofing membranes, pay attention to the overlap. You can use the black stripe on the waterproofing membrane as a guide. The sides must be heated and the overflowing bitumen must be spread. Always pay attention to safety when working with the torch. Accordingly, you should always have a fire extinguisher or a water hose ready.
