Autumn tips for garage & co.: Get ready for winter now!

Autumn is the ideal time not only to get ready for the cooler days but also to prepare your garage and everything associated with it for the upcoming winter. As the summer gradually draws to a close, you should make sure that your garage & co. is well maintained and well equipped to face the challenges of winter.

Here are some practical tips for your garage & co:

1. Maintenance of the garage components

Now is the ideal time to check the few maintenance points in your garage. This includes the door lock, the door transmitter battery, the door tracks, and the door springs. When temperatures are still pleasant, you can thoroughly inspect these components and oil or clean them if necessary. Nobody wants to find out during a winter storm that the garage door lock has suddenly become sluggish.

2. Check the ventilation grilles

In the fall, many wild animals seek shelter for the cold days. You should therefore check all ventilation grilles and covers in your garage for any damage. Defective grilles could allow unwanted animal guests into your garage, which can cause damage and hygiene problems.

6. Check lighting

In fall and winter, the days are shorter, and the lighting conditions in and in front of the garage are more important than ever. Check the lighting and replace defective bulbs so that you can always see clearly when you arrive or leave.

7. Store garden tools

At the end of the gardening season, you should carefully clean your garden tools and store them in the garage. Lawn mowers & co. should also be checked again and checked for functionality to ensure a smooth start in spring.

8. Storing collector’s vehicles

If you have special vehicles such as vintage cars, motorcycles, or convertibles that are only used in summer, bring them into your garage now. Check the garage vents for blockages, and make sure your additional ventilation devices, such as the ZAPF eco garage fan, are working properly. Inflate the tires of your vehicles slightly above normal or park the vehicle on special parking elements (to prevent flat spots), disconnect the electrical circuit, and connect the battery to a trickle charger if necessary.

Special tip: Carry out an online garage check now

Autumn is also the perfect time to check the condition of your existing garage. The best way to do this is to start by using the free online garage check on our website.

This check gives you an initial assessment of whether your garage has potential weak points that need to be urgently repaired before the winter or whether a fundamental renovation and modernization (e.g., next spring) is required. If the online check indicates any urgently needed renovations, you can schedule an appointment with our ZAPF specialists this year to plan all the necessary measures before winter or (if it is not so urgent) in spring 2025.
